dharma punx philadelphia
What is Dharma Punx Philadelphia?
a brief description...
dharma punx philadelphia gathers together for in-person meditation, and to share our personal experience with Buddhist principles and mindfulness practices during a peer-facilitated group discussion. We are an autonomous group, peer-led and not aligned with any one specific teacher or lineage. There is no requirement to be a practicing Buddhist, or to have meditation experience to attend the meetings. All are welcome to attend. Sharing during the discussion, while encouraged, is always optional. Our facilitators are members of our sangha who volunteer to lead our meditations and group discussions. And when there is a fifth Sunday in the month, we arrange an opportunity to walk in nature together. Attendees have described the meetings as "noncompetitive, safe spaces which help create conditions for connection, community, and discovery." Our current group began meeting in May of 2023 and in June 2023 we adopted the name "dharma punx philadelphia". We express our deep gratitude and respect for the previous dharma punx philadelphia groups, their members & custodians and to the founders of the first dharma punx sangha.

what happens at a meeting?
Our gatherings are facilitated by members of our community and include a 20-30 minute meditation and the presentation of a dharma related topic which is then followed by an open group discussion. These presentations may include a talk, a reading, or anything which will stimulate the group conversation. Sangha members are encouraged, but not required, to facilitate meetings and lead meditations. We will occasionally invite guest teachers to lead our group. There is never a charge to attend a meeting. We do accept donations which we use primarily to support Studio 34 as well as dharma-related offerings in the Philadelphia region, such as providing scholarships for daylong retreat attendees when needed.
who comes to the meetings?
Everyone is welcome to join us regardless of their personal meditation experience. There is no hierarchy. We seek to provide an inclusive, safe space for equitable, authentic expression and discussion. Our sangha thrives upon the diversity of experiences of our attendees and this helps us co-create opportunities for exploring varied perspectives in a compassionate setting. Many have mentioned that practicing meditation in a group has been beneficial for them, and so they are grateful for that availability at meetings.
