Rev. Joseph Rogers, MDiv. is an ordained Buddhist lay minister, healthcare chaplain, Zen Peacemaker, trauma healing practitioner, and Buddhist meditation teacher out of the Dharma Punx movement. As the founding teacher of the Living the Suttas sitting group, Joseph explores practice through the lens of the householder, with emphasis on cultivating Merit. Joseph is currently a Mindworks meditation app teacher and the co-host of The Buddhist Other podcast that explores the intersections of Buddhism, magic, mysticism, mythology, deep ecology, and the Dharma of Now.

In this day-long practice we will seek to answer how we might bring Dharma practice into our daily lives as non-monastic lay Buddhists through the practice of Merit. Representing a more traditional lay practice of the Noble 8-fold path of Buddhism, merit is the cultivation of generosity, ethics, and a kind heart. We will explore Engaged Buddhism through the practice of the Three Tenets of the Zen Peacemakers; discuss how the 5-precepts offer both protection for our mindfulness and represent an object for mindfulness; and practice cultivating the stabilizing qualities of kindness, compassion, and shared joy.
